Arkansas Educational Television Network
KETS 2/Little RockThe courses are scheduled asynchronous. ‘Asynchronous’ because there is no set time for the class to meet, and ‘scheduled’ meaning learners need to participate on a regular weekly basis to complete the weekly assignments. Being asynchronous allows for flexibility on the learner’s part so the courses can fit almost anyone’s schedule, but it is not ‘at your own pace.’ It is Flexible!
If you are a current licensed teacher in Arkansas with a 10-digit State Teacher Identification Number, the course is free. The Arkansas Department of Education and Arkansas Educational Television Network are offering these courses at no cost to Arkansas teachers. It works with anyone’s budget! After the completion of a six-week course; participants can acquire 30 to 45 hours of professional development hours. The approval of these hours is totally at the discretion of your school administrator.
You do not need to be a “techie.” The free two-hour online training orientation program will teach you everything that you need to know. You should be, however, very comfortable using e-mail on a regular basis, and doing things online such as surfing the Internet. Having excellent writing skills are also very important to have as an online learner.
Graduate credit and CEUs toward certification may be available for most courses. Each course can be taken for one to three graduate credits from local and national universities at an added cost. We will pay for the course, but you will have to pay for the graduate credit. Many educators across the state are already taking advantage of this convenient and reasonably priced professional development resource. Read more about Graduate Credit.
Facilitators run the entire course from beginning to end. They wear many hats: teacher, assistant, leader, help desk attendant, tech trouble-shooter, coach, etc. They create all e mails related to the course, as well as announcements and discussion board forums. They review and assess all learner work. Facilitators hold Master’s Degrees, are selected by their peers and trained by PBS.
