KETS 2/Little Rock
The Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) Production “Delta Dreams” (2007) is a story that is told primarily by a cross section of the men and women, young and old, who live in the community of Helena-West Helena.
They include planters and farmers, businessmen and teachers, high schools and college students, working people and small business owners, community leaders and people trying to escape poverty.
“Delta Dreams” is AETN’s two-year study of the region’s decline and plan for recovery.
This award-winning documentary presents a portrait of the town Helena - West Helena as it was in its glory day, a description of how and why it declined, the formation of a plan for recovery by the community in conjunction with Southern Bancorp and the Walton Foundation; the efforts of local people to start new businesses including building tourism around the town’s history and tradition of music; the troubled and present racial history of the community; and the efforts to overcome the devastating effects of poverty through education.
A study of water resources in Arkansas is as varied as the people who live here. Different issues in different parts of the state are raising a common concern; that our status as a water rich state may be in doubt. Growth in industry, agriculture and population is straining this essential resource and the signs are beginning to show. Water quality is suffering from growth and development in the watersheds and water levels are dropping in the state's aquifers.
The Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) Production "Troubled Water" (2008) is an original sixty-minute, award-winning documentary that traveled across the state to learn more about the potential for a water crisis in Arkansas.
Farmers, Geologists, experts and concerned citizens share their opinions and stories about how water is managed in Arkansas and what we need to do to protect this irreplaceable resource.
